What is the meaning of life? Does any body know? Is there one true definition that everyone would agree on? The meaning of life varies between each person due to their values, faith, and beliefs. Many people believe that sexual reproduction is the meaning of life for many men, but actually it is just a similar goal that has been stereotypically given to us. One of the main reasons why everyone acts different in our society/world is because we all live for something else. I believe that the meaning of life is to discover our true personal image, to overcome challenges to goals we set, and to find love and happiness. Again, this is not the actual meaning of life, but merely what I think it is.
Many people in our society are not being true to themselves. With television, radio, and every other media out there, it is hard trying to hold your own image. Media tells us what our image is, rather than us choosing for ourselves. Many people struggle through life trying to look good for others and not for themselves. A person who changes their whole personality to become the ideal girl/boy just for status would mostly likely have a low self-esteem. I would admit that I was also someone like that. Before, I used to hang out with people who were “cool” and always try to copy them. I would always try to be in the “in” crowd which at the time was called as “Gangsta” and started dressing like them. This would mean that my image was not mind, but just something I did because of my peers. No matter what, even though when people say they do not care what other people think about how they dress or look, they actually do. Thus, one of meaning life is to search for our true image, without being influenced by our society.
Some people think that living life is too hard. Some complain that there are many obstructions in the way, and that it is simply to hard to overcome. Those people are quitters. In life, many challenges will arise both mentally and physically. There is no point in life if every time there is a challenge we give up. There will always be a piece missing if we do not accomplish what we set out to do. Goals are an essential part of life because life itself is full of tasks. Of course sometimes our peers can be the obstruction that is in the way of our goals. It is easy to accomplish our goals when our peers encourage us, it would be like a mental boost. When they do not encourage us, but do the opposite like put us down, many people break down and give up. Society has taught some people to be materialistic. People who are materialistic think that their life will be great with tangible items. People must be able to accomplish the many goals in life to be satisfied or happy, not buy giving up or buying something that has a price.
What does love got to do with it? Well even though it is just a feeling, love is a powerful emotion that can change ones life dramatically. Some people do not experience love because they believe that it is just a waste of time. Some others do not experience love because they believe that they will be hurt. But no one can be hurt without being happy at one point, because that would be the only reason that they will be hurt. Happiness is usually related with love and success. Life without happiness is a life not worth living. Happiness gives people hope and encouragement in pursuing many things in life such as getting married, having children and even accomplishing their goals. Therefore, love which is directly related to happiness is what makes ones life more exciting.
In conclusion, what the meaning of life means to us is usually given to us by our society rather than ourselves. Society influences one’s judgment on how we think and how we act. Thus we should live life to the fullest extent that should bring us happiness. Goals should always be set so that we would always be satisfied with ourselves, rather than our peers. With love, happiness, and personal goals, our true image on life will be discovered.
